Dragging-and-Dropping and Copying-and-Pasting Files into QuarkXPress

Dragging-and-Dropping and Copying-and-Pasting Files into QuarkXPress

With the Virtual Ticket Developer QuarkXPress XTension installed, you may drag-and-drop and copy-and-paste images and text files from Virtual Ticket Developer or the Mac OS X Finder directly into an open QuarkXPress document. When dragging-and-dropping and copying-and-pasting files into QuarkXPress, you can either specify an existing picture/text box or have the XTension create the picture/text box for you automatically.

IMPORTANT! If other XTensions with drag-and-drop capability are installed, you may get unpredictable results.

Dragging-and-dropping files into QuarkXPress

1. Within Virtual Ticket Developer (or the Mac OS X Finder), locate and select the image or text file you want to drag into the QuarkXPress document.

2. To drop the file into an existing picture/text box, right click on the box in QuarkXPress and in the context menu, select Get Picture.... The Get Picture window will open. Drag and drop the file from Virtual Ticket Developer into the Get Picture window and click Open.

3. To drop the file into a new picture/text box, drag-and-drop the file onto the open QuarkXPress document. The Virtual Ticket Developer QuarkXPress XTension will automatically create a new picture/text box and display the selected file within it.

4. To drag-and-drop multiple files simultaneously, select multiple files within Virtual Ticket Developer (or the Mac OS X Finder) and drag them onto the QuarkXPress document.

NOTE: If dragging-and-dropping from Virtual Ticket Developer, the image and text files must be accessible from the workstation from which you are performing the drag-and-drop process.

5. Within Virtual Ticket Developer (or the Mac OS X Finder), locate and select the image or text file you wish to insert into the QuarkXPress document.

NOTE: Due to a limitation of the Mac OS X Finder, copy and paste functionality from Finder does not work for multiple selected files.

6. Copy this file/image by pressing Command-C (or by selecting Copy from the Edit menu.

7. Within QuarkXPress, paste the file/image into an open document by selecting Paste File(s) from the Virtual Ticket Developer™ menu, or by pressing Command-[. Files will be pasted according to the following conventions:

If no picture box is selected - the file(s) will be pasted into new picture boxes automatically created in the document.

If a picture box is selected - the file(s) will be pasted into the picture box. If pasting multiple files, the first file will be pasted into the picture box, remaining files will be pasted into new picture boxes automatically created in the document.

If multiple files are copied and multiple picture boxes are selected - the files will be pasted, in order, into the selected picture boxes. Only one file will be pasted into each picture box. If more files were copied than there are picture boxes to paste them into, the remaining files will be pasted into new picture boxes.

8. To copy-and-past multiple files simultaneously, select and copy multiple files and paste them onto the QuarkXPress document.
