Adding a New Report from an RDL File

  1. Open the System Setup window from the Administration menu, then select Reports and Custom Queries.
  2. Click New and select Report. The New Report panel is shown in the display pane of the System Setup window.

  3. Click Import an existing report. A file browser window will open. Browse to and select the RDL file you want to add as a Virtual Ticket report. The report properties will be displayed in the Report Definition tab.

  4. Select an output type for the report. You can choose from PDF, Excel, and CSV formats.
  5. OPTIONAL: You may preview your report now by clicking Preview ( A screenshot of Virtual Ticket's preview button for previewing MS SQL Server Reporting Services Reports. ). You will be prompted to add any required information necessary to run the report.
  6. Type a name for the report. By default, it uses a name based on the name of the imported .rdl file.
  7. Select a location in the Custom Application Menu bar for the report to appear in.

    This is one way users will access the report. If you do not choose a location, users will only be able to access the report through associated types (see below) or, if no associated types are defined, users will no means to access the report. This effectively means the report is hidden from all but Administrative users.
  8. Select an Associated Folder Type for the Report in the Associated Type field. When a Report is associated with a Folder Type, the Report can be printed from any form associated with that folder type by clicking File-> Print and selecting View Report. Only reports that use one parameter based on the ID field of the folder type can be associated with Folder Types.
  9. Review the execution timeout settings in the Execution tab. Make any changes necessary.

  10. Specify the user access permissions for the report in the Access tab.

  11. Click Save when done. The report definition file will be uploaded to the Virtual Ticket database and the report will be available to the specified users.
