Defining Additional Database Fields
Database fields can be created to store as much information as needed for each folder type (Digital Resources and Retrieval Requests) . There are nine possible datatypes for a database field: character, integer, 64-bit integer, decimal, decimal(HI), date, time, file collection, and memo. For more information about these datatypes, please refer to the “Database Field Datatypes” section above.
- Select Forms and Finds from the Administration menu. This will open the Forms and Finds window if it is not open, or bring it to the front if it is already open.
- Select the folder type (Digital Resources or Retrieval Requests) in which you want to create database fields and click ADD (
). A New Field Item dialog box will appear, allowing you to add new database fields.
- Specify the name, datatype, and maximum length (if necessary) of the new database field and click Add (
). The new database field will be displayed in the background on the right side of the File Cabinet window.
- Repeat step 3 for each database field you want to add. When finished, click Done (
) to close the Add Field dialog box.
- Click Save (
) in the Forms and Finds window. This will save the new fields you have created to the Digital Storage Manager database, making them available for use on forms based on the folder type.
