Locating Files

Locating Files

DSM provides two tools for locating files anywhere in the storage infrastructure of the production environment, including:

File servers

NAS Devices

Nearline Storage Devices

Collections of offline media

Searching

Most users find searching with DSM Finds to be an efficient way to locate specific files within the storage infrastructure. With DSM Finds, you can conduct searches across the entire environment based on any mix of file attribute and rich metadata information associated with folders and files. This means you are more likely to find the files you want based on the information you are most likely to remember.

Browsing

DSM allows you to browse the entire infrastructure with a familiar and easy to use tool called Digital Resource Explorer. In Digital Resource Explorer, all storage locations are presented in the volume/folder/file hierarchical tree-view common to most file system navigation tools. By using Digital Resource Explorer, you can quickly browse every storage location in your environment, including collections of offline media.
