Tape Media Profiles

Tape Media Profile settings are used to modify the user experience and application behavior when users archive to tape media.

Tape Media Profile settings are used to define:

The automatically generated volume name assigned when users archive to tape media.

The ability for users to override the default volume name when archiving to tape media.

The default Archive and Retrieve Helpers used when users attempt to archive or retrieve.

Enable Override

Enabling this checkbox allows users who perform archive operations for tape media to override the default volume label values defined below.

Prefix

Volume labels for archived files and folders will start with the text contained in this field.

Index

Volume labels for archived files and folders will end with this number, and will automatically increment from this number for each subsequent archive operation using Tape media.

Index Length

Determines the number of characters for the Volume Index. If the Index Value is set to 1 and the Index Length is set to 4, the suffix for the first Archive operation for tape media will read “PREFIX0001” (where “PREFIX” is the text assigned in the Prefix field and “0001” is defined by the values assigned in the Index and Index Length fields.

Name Example

This field displays an example name constructed according to the values assigned in the Prefix, Index, and Index Length fields above.

 

Archive Helper

Select from the list of enabled Archive Helpers for the Tape Media Type. If no Archive Helpers for the Tape Media Type are enabled, this list will be empty. When an archive helper is selected here, it will be used as the default helper when archiving to tape media.

Retrieve Helper

Select from the list of enabled Retrieve Helpers for the Tape Media Type. If no Retrieve Helpers for the Tape Media Type are enabled, this list will be empty. When a retrieve helper is selected here, it will be used as the default helper when retrieving from tape media.

Procedures

Configuring the Tape Media Profile

  1. Open the Media Profiles window by selecting the Administration menu and clicking Media Profiles.
  2. Select the Tape Media Type if it is not already selected.
  3. Click Edit ( ).
  4. Enable the Enable override checkbox only if you want users to be able to define their own volume labels when archiving files and folders to tape. See “Enable Override” above for more information.
  5. Configure the remaining options in the Volume Naming Conventions Setup group. These settings will define the default or assigned volume labels when users archive to tape media. See “Volume Naming Convention Setup” above for more information.
  6. Review the example name in the Name Example field. This example volume label is constructed according to the information provided in the previous fields. If the example name is acceptable, continue to the next step. If the example name is unacceptable, revise the settings in the Volume Naming Convention Setup group until an acceptable example volume label appears, then continue to the next step.
  7. Select the default Archive Helper and the default Retrieve Helper in the Default Archiving Helpers group. Only archive and retrieve Helpers that have been enabled for the Tape Media Type will be available for selection. When default Helpers are assigned, they appear as the default selection when users archive to tape. This is a convenience feature only; default Helpers do not have to be assigned, nor are users required to use default helpers when archiving or retrieving).
  8. Configure the Tape Media Profile.
  9. Click Update ( ) when finished. The volume naming, override, and default helper selections will be available to users when archiving to tape media.
