Modifying the Appearance of the Web Interface
The visual appearance of the Image Portal Web Server may be customized by modifying the components of the “skin” (or format) with which the data is presented. This may be done by altering lines of html code within a text file called elements.txt.
The elements.txt file contains the html building blocks with which the web page is constructed. You can customize a range of visual elements, such as background color, buttons, fonts, and logos. Although you can customize almost every visual element on the web site, the elements.txt file cannot be used to alter the operation of the Image Portal Web Server.
The following is an example of how a typical element of the “skin” may be customized.
To replace the Image Portal Web Server logo:
- On the server computer where the Image Portal Web Server is installed, locate the Inetpub\wwwroot\metacomm\skin\vtdsm_images directory. This is the default directory in which the images used in the web server interface are stored.
- Rename the Image Portal Web Server logo - meta_logo.gif to meta_logo.OLD. This will provide you with the ability to revert to the original logo in the future.
- Save your custom logo file with the name meta_logo.gif.
- Refresh your web browser application’s window to view the results. You may need to resize the new image in a graphics editing program and repeat this procedure until you achieve the desired appearance.
- Copy the original and modified versions of the files to permanent storage. If a future upgrade of the web-server replaces the custom files, you can easily revert back to your custom look by copying the custom logo file back to the Inetpub\wwwroot\metacomm\skin\vtdsm_images directory.
