Modifying the Default Appearance of the Image Portal Web Server
Image Portal Web Server is provided with a user interface that may be suitable for most organizations. However, you may want to alter certain visual and functional aspects of the system to better suit your organization’s specific needs. For instance, you may want to change its appearance so it integrates seamlessly within your organization’s web site. Or you may want to specify the digital resource information users will have access to in the File Properties window. These type of modifications may be accomplished (with others) to customize the interface to the Image Portal Web Server. This section provides examples of how the interface may be modified.
The most basic example of customization is modifying the “skin”, or the basic look and feel of the web server, through a file called elements.txt. Advanced customization, such as modifying what data is returned and displayed for a digital resource, may be achieved by modifying the active server page (ASP) files.
NOTE: When Image Portal Web Server is upgraded from a previous version, a backup of all modified files is created. The upgrade then overwrites the active files with new, upgraded files. If the upgrade is executed properly, the Administrator may replace the newly upgraded files with the backup files to reassert any modifications you may have made.
