Enabling and Configuring the CA ARCserve Backup Helper

Enabling and Configuring the CA ARCserve Backup Helper

When this Helper Application is used as part of the archive process, it will create Backup and Restore Jobs in the CA ARCserve Manager for files and folders you wish to archive and retrieve using CA ARCserve. When these Jobs are created in the Archive Manager, they can be run at will according to your schedule.

This Helper Application needs to be enabled before it will become available to users of the Digital Storage Manager desktop client for Mac OS X and Windows.

Reminder: This Helper can be used for both Archiving and Retrieving from Tape media. In order to be used, the CA ARCserve Backup Helper must be enabled in both the Archive Helpers Settings list and the Retrieve Helpers Settings list.

Note: The CA ARCserve volume must be accessible via the SMB protocol.

To enable and configure the CA ARCserve Backup Helper:

  1. Open the Media Profiles window by selecting the Administration menu and clicking Media Profiles.
  2. Select the Tape Media Type.
  3. Select either the Archive Helper Settings group or the Retrieve Helper Settings group.
  4. Select the CA ARCserve Backup Helper from the Helper list for the selected group.
  5. Click Edit ( ).
  6. Select the Enabled checkbox.
  7. Type the URL of the CA ARCserve server.
  8. Type the name of a device group you wish to use, if desired.
  9. Type the volume path name for the archive and retrieve volumes used by the CA ARCserve manager.
  10. Type the User Name and Password of a user authenticated in the CA ARCserve software.
  11. Click TEST to verify the information. If the test results indicate “Passed”, continue on to the next step. If the results indicated “Failed”, double-check the information provided in the preceding steps.

  1. Click Update ( ) when finished. The CA ARCserve Helper application will be enabled and can be used as part of the archiving and/or retrieving process (depending on which are enabled) for Tape. See “Archiving with the CA ARCserve Backup Helper” and “Retrieving with the CA ARCserve Backup Helper” for more information.

You may wish to set this as the default Helper for Archiving and Retrieving in “Tape Media Profiles”.

Note: To properly configure and use this Helper Application, you must setup equivalence between the “caroot” CA ARCserve user account and the administrator account on the SQL Server. This is done in the command line of the CA ARCserve server. Type “ca_auth -equiv add Administrator <SQL Server Host Name> caroot” where “Administrator” is the account name for the SQL Administrator “<SQL Server Host Name>”.
