Working With Reports

The Reports feature in Virtual Ticket provides the ability to use the Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services platform for generating advanced Reports on information contained in the Virtual Ticket database.

Reports can be created in one of two ways:

  • Autogenerated from your Virtual Ticket forms
  • Manually authored and uploaded to the Virtual Ticket database

Manually authored reports need to be written in a tool suitable for authoring MS SQL Server Reporting Services Reports. These reports are contained in RDL (Report Definition Language) files. Once authored, the RDL files are then uploaded to the Virtual Ticket database.

When a report is run by a Virtual Ticket user, Virtual Ticket will connect to the Report Server, which will then run the report against the Virtual Ticket database. Results are returned to the user in the default format.

Requirements for Reporting

In order to use the Reporting functionality in Virtual Ticket, you need to have the following installed and working in your environment:

  • MS SQL Server 2008 or 2005 SP2 Workgroups Edition (or greater) with MS SQL Server Reporting Services
